North Pond Restoration Update

Share to:

The Conservancy’s project to restore the North Pond Nature Sanctuary over the next three years has made significant progress since our last update. In November we hosted three virtual public input meetings that were attended by over 150 persons. We received great input and support during these meetings. If you missed them but would like to provide input, check out our online input form or contact us to set up a call or presentation.

We’re excited that North Pond’s restoration is receiving positive press in recent weeks. The Chicago Tribune featured North Pond in a cover story and a separate editorial, which has attracted a significant amount of attention and donations to the project. WGN Radio and Block Club Chicago also covered the project recently. We are very thankful for this coverage and support from our local media outlets for this important project.

Thanks to our generous donors, we’re happy to report that we experiencing extraordinary giving to the Conservancy and North Pond’s restoration.   Thank you to everyone who has donated to ensuring that this natural treasure thrives for generations to come.   You can help us spread the word about North Pond’s restoration by becoming a North Pond Champion.  Our next virtual training is Saturday, January 9 from 9-11 am.  For more information or to attend, email us.

2021 will see much more activity with the project as we begin the permitting process and work with our consultants and the Chicago Park District to move our plans to 100% by this summer. We will be on track to select a dredging contractor by then with the dredge to be completed by this time next year. The remainder of the project is slated for 2022 with the project to wrap up by the fall. For more information on the North Pond Restoration Project, including a complete project timeline visit the North Pond project page.
