The Lincoln Park Conservancy respects and appreciates the long history of the North Pond casting pier and wants to help improve the infrastructure for its future. Repairs and upgrades to the pier form the second phase of the Conservancy’s North Pond Restoration Project, the comprehensive project to restore the North Pond Nature Sanctuary. The work is estimated to cost $1,500,000.
The North Pond casting pier is rooted in the history of casting clubs in Chicago. The current concrete pier dates to 1946 and replaced an original wooden structure which had fallen into disrepair. The pier has been maintained and used by the Chicago Angling & Casting Club, one of the oldest organized casting clubs in the world, with support from the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum, Anglers’ Club of Chicago and Elliott Donnelley Chapter of Trout Unlimited. The North Pond casting pier has hosted multiple national and regional casting competitions. The site has also served as the launchpad for countless new fly fisher, young and old. Your support helps the Lincoln Park Conservancy to preserve the history and enhance the future of fly casting at North Pond.
